So there I was at 10:00 this morning wondering if we would get Man City at home as predicted. Timbo told me that a Scouser he spoke to predicted it would be Liverpool/ Everton. But hey guess what? Yep, it was all smoke and mirrors. It's a trip up to the North East and a return to the Stadium of "Lite" ... yep, it's Sunderland. Well poor old Sir Clive hasn't got long to wait, but I'll guarantee we will hear a few more songs for Michael Gray.
The full first day fixture list is here.
There's still no sign of a new signing. It's actually getting a bit laughable. Now I'm sure Charlton, Curbs, Murray at al have been working like troopers to get some one in, but I think they must be down to the C list by now.
"Hello Mr Coradi, this is Curbs 'ere, from er, Charlton, er you know in the English Premier League?"
**Silence**
"We wan't you to come, and ... er play for us next season, er to link up with, er Franny Jeffers!!!!"
**Silence** ... followed by fits of laughter.
Well you get me, it ain't really happening is it. We've tried up and comers, we've tried squad players ... what next? I for one think we need to go for yougish players 20-25 who may be hungry. Players that aren't on shed loads of money and players that when they sign will be paid a bit more and have a lot to prove. Did Jeffers and Murphy really justify their wages last season? Answers on a postcard.
It's still hot out. It's great fun seeing everyone sweat and fan themselves on the train. Wear linen or soft cotton, not heavy black polyester.
