The wood for the trees ...

I was still shaking my head as I left the Valley yesterday. A fairly tame affair turned on it's head by one Darren Bent. If we didn't have Mr Bent but had, er ... John Stead instead (lol) then where would we be. The facts are that we tried to sign Big Jon before we signed Darren. Maybe because he had had Premiership experience. It beggars belief. Vidukas goal was a corker in itself and will warn nus what to expect come the Cup match. For a fat bloke I do like Viduka, and some of our forwards could learn a thing on holding the ball up. But then again maybe not.

I had another chat with Bibblybob about this Charlton academy thing. It grates me more and more that because the club have built a nice club house they automatically think kids will sign for them. Even though they don't have a presence. They are too busy sponsoring the North Kent League to worry about the League on their own doorstep. If Ronaldinho had been born in Harvey Gardens he would most probably be at Millwalls academy because the Charlton scouts are all down in Stroud. I don't get it.

I tried to bring these points up on the Pink Oboe list but they are more interested in the Police not attending when a cars window gets smashed when they park on an industrial estate. Have the police ever attended a smashed window? They didn't attend when the Mini got the petrol cap busted and petrol syphaned. They didn't attend when the mini got shunted in the front, when the Metro had the windscreen stolen, when the Metro had two wheels stolen or the boot caved in. In general it seems strange that you would want the Police to attend such matters.

It seems Welling are throwing their playoff chances away. They drew with Maidenhead on Saturday after conceding a 93rd minute equaliser, lost to then bottom Carshalton a few weeks ago and drew with bottom Newport a week or so before that.

I picked up a copy of the Daily Mail off the train today. It's scarey that they can still print some of the stuff they do, and even scarier that people buy it.

It was interesting watching people watch the rugby yesterday. England took a hell of a beating and peoples interests began to diminish. Could rugger be on its way out?
