The following is an email I received from the Freeholders managing agents in regards to some works/ damage at my flat. Five years worth of gardening ruined by scaffolders.


Dear Richard,

Thanks for your email of 14th April.
I did visit the premises and attach hereto a copy of the picture of the front garden from which I can see, probably two lavender bushes that appear to have been trodden down. Did you actually see the scaffolders do this? Or could it possibly have been local yobs? I know what your argument is but it is a bit difficult for me to tell the scaffolders they did something if they were not seen doing this, if you get my point.
May I suggest that we wait to see if the lavenders will grow again before making any further comment? Usually plants are quite hardy. I can see your lavenders have been well-established, but they may well grow again. Alteratively, why not plant some young lavenders at a reasonable cost, which will then grow in due course and I will approach the builder for this? I cannot really go to them at a figure of £200 as I am sure you will appreciate.
I am happy to get an estimate to replace the front path with Victorian tiles if you want, to put it back as it was built over a hundred years ago and also I am happy to get an estimate for taking down the entire wall down to it’s foundation and to re-build this. You will know that the wall was rebuilt after it was knocked down by yobbos using existing bricks where possible. It wasn’t fully taken down in any event but just rebuilt from the bricks that had been knocked out plus a few new ones.
We really are trying to help you in all matters. I have certainly been to the property now three times in the last six months, we have attended to all the complaints. I understand that the roof complaint was not a leak, in the area where the chimney was taken down but a leak at the front of the building where the flashings were fixed and this was several weeks after it was repaired so my suggestion is that it is possible that this is slipped slates caused by recent high winds which our roofing company will check.
